Regina Barnes landed a job offer within 1 hour of her interview 🎉
To help and inspire fellow job seekers to build a career walking deck, she has shared her personal experience (in her own words, with minor edits for brevity) below:
I first learned about the career walking deck from Karen’s LinkedIn post and decided to try it out using Canva.
As a contractor seeking full-time opportunities, I was about to enter my first interview in nearly 2 years and thought this would be a great way to stand out.
The process of creating a deck was very simple, thanks to the templates I found on Karen’s blog. I decided to consolidate my deck to 3 pages:
- Why Me + Why This Company + How We Align
- Colleague Recommendation
- Thank You + Contact Info
I presented my career walking deck at the end of the interview when asked if I had any additional questions for the interview panel.
I used my deck to reiterate how I’d add value and impact upon hire. All of the panelists were impressed. I had an offer within an hour!
Quick Tips:
- Highlight how your current role aligns to the role you’re interviewing for
- Keep everything brief by preparing it like a summary
- Avoid reading directly from the slides when you’re presenting
